SMITHS EARLY SOLID 9CT GOLD 1947/50 12-15 HORN LUG GENTS WRISTWATCH IN MINT CONDITION BOX PAPER
An exceptional example of the Smiths English wristwatch so-called 12.15 prior to the Deluxe brand name being used. This watch actually was hallmarked in 1947 but was sold as a finished watch a few years later in 1950. Fully serviced and excellent in all respects. Case width about 31m excl. Retains the original Smiths winding crown. Fitted with a new crystal and amazingly has the original watch strap fitted still with the rg buckle. Featuring the pre-epsilon gilded c series movement which is in remarkable condition. Have a close look at the images and you will not be disappointed. A very fine example. Comes with a new presentation box and a free spring bar tool for changing straps. This is one of the first gold watch sold post WWII by Smiths and features an early c series movement with a higher grade benson type balance, and the polished ratchet wheel. Non dust-proof plated original dimpled crown still present. Case gold from new was a reddish colour. The case number is 98675, ALD for Dennison, ref number 12328.
The paperwork is from a private jewellers and they even engraved their warranty number inside the watch case back.
The pre-deluxe box is signed and by the jewellers, as on the warranty and this gives 1950 as sale year.
This is model number is given as rh 0710, but that may be rg 0710.
