DELUXE SMITHS LARGE SIZED 1953 9CT GOLD WRISTWATCH SERVICED EXCELLENT
DELUXE SMITHS LARGE SIZED 1953 9CT GOLD WRISTWATCH SERVICED EXCELLENT. This is one of the largest watches Smiths made during the ww2 period up until the 1970s. The case diameter is a tad under 35mm. This is Edinburgh assay office for 53 and stamped BWC, the earlier mark before it was SCW. Overall in very pleasant condition with an exceptional dial. Some marks ate the case openings, but nothing that could not be polished away with a little care. This watch tales a 16mm strap and we have fitted one of the short fitting satin finished leather ZRC straps in red, which accentuates the pink tone of the solid 9 carat gold case. There is a dent in the back of the case but no engraving.
Movement is pretty good and interestingly has the balance one would assume was reserved for the sportier watches from the period with the nickel finish, which I assumed was anti-corrosion. Clearly anyway this watch hasn't suffered from the usual large watch problem of water damage that Smiths suffer from.
