The famous Smiths Made in England elusive automatic. 25 jewel movement with rhodium colour movement based on the 19 jewel movement. Designed by Richard Good and Peter Amis in London and built in Cheltenham. Copied directly from the IWC pellaton automatic mechanism of the period. Correctly signed on the movement Imperial. This one is a good timekeeper. Really excellent and original dial. The case back is fully hallmarked 3 piece solid 9ct gold case with a reasonable diameter of approx 34mm excluding the rolled gold winding crown. 1964/65 Edinburgh hallmarked case stamped SCW, formerly BCW. All automatic full production movements are marked Imperial on the rotor and ratchet wheel. This is the later case used on the gold models with thinner more modern strap lugs
There is an inscription on the back, It was presented to L Reed for long service working at DECCA, the interesting part of the inscription is that it has a start year and presumably he carried on working after the watch was presented. Full caliber designation of 01044g, also 65. Takes a 17mm strap.
Will be fully overhauled.
Worth noting that this case type does cause some noise amplification of the rotor weight presumably since there is very little gap between the edge of the rotor and the case.
Will be delivered with the usual comprehensive presentation pack.
Apart from slight case wear this one is absolutely superb.
