Copy of DELUXE SMITHS 9CT GOLD BRITISH RAIL WRISTWATCH IN GOOD CONDITION c 1957
Good example of the British Rail North Eastern Region award for long service, this one for 45 years which is I think the highest number of years that can be found on a BR watch. The case diameter without the winding crown is about 30.8mm. The 15 jewel English movements in superb condition. This is the Deluxe grade escapement polished components and a screw fitted balance, too early for the benefit of shock-proofed balance settings
The strap size is a Smiths normal size for many of their watches, 16mm. Fitted here with a tan coloured calf leather strap.
This British Rail version has the plain cream dial rather than the bark finished one. Some minor marks opening, and wear where the crown is situated. The crystal is a super low dome. The hands are the high visibility version with the gilt anodised numbers on the dial. The winding crown has lost a tiny bit of plating but in remarkable condition as it is the original one.
Please note that this case is one of if not the tightest fitting clip on back I have come across and unwarranted removal will cause damage, this needs to be opened by an expert. I'm used to most Smiths being loose fitting, clearly this one hasn't been opened much in the past.
