DELUXE SMITHS 9CT GOLD BRITISH RAIL ISSUE LONG SERVICE WATCH GOOD WORKING ORDER
Deluxe Smiths solid 9ct gold British Rail issue long service watch in reasonable condition, with just a new ZRC 519 alligator grain strap with biocomfort back, new low domed crystal and a proper rolled gold dust-proof winding crown. The watch is about 30.6mm diameter without the crown, and has just been fully overhauled. Two piece case stamped scw with a firmly fitting clip on back.
The watch dates to about 1963 and was given by British Railways for long service for 45 years. This Smiths Deluxe gold watch keeps good time and interestingly has the higher visibility blued steel hands fitted, as many of these do. This example is not mint, with some tropic dial toning and is a very wearable, though not oversized example of Smiths classically designed English wristwatches.
British Rail Deluxe grade watches were usually fitted with Astral grade movements, of which this is a slim example, the slightly different specs presumably supplied as a cost saving for a buyer of large contract numbers.
