DELUXE SMITHS 9CT GOLD BRITISH RAIL ISSUE LONG SERVICE WATCH GOOD CONDITION 7
Deluxe Smiths solid 9ct gold British Rail Western Region issue long service watch in average condition, with a new 16mm ZRC Buffalo calf leather strap with Bio-Comfort back, with the newer ZRC buckle with their new crown logo that matches the one used by Smiths on the Deluxe dial. Fitted with a new low domed crystal and still with the original somewhat worn rolled gold dust-proof winding crown. `note also that the case has nit been polished. The watch is about 30.7mm diameter without the crown, and has just been fully overhauled, with a new setting lever bridge or bolt spring as Smiths called it.
Two piece case fully marked by Dennison, see image for fine details, rather than the usual SCW signed one. This has a firmly fitting clip in back .
The watch dates to about 1957/8 and was given by British Rail for long service for 45 years to a Western Region employee. This Smiths Deluxe gold watch keeps good time and for an otherwise gold watch has the higher visibility contrasting blued steel hands fitted, This example is not mint, but has a very clear dial and is a very wearable, though not oversized example of Smiths classically designed English wristwatches.
The dial has been modified at some stage for a 15 jewel non-shock protected movement as fitted rather than the shockproof one, this can be seen faintly under the centre of the watch.
British Rail Deluxe grade watches were usually fitted with Astral grade movements, although some, such as this example have the partial Deluxe grade movement, the slightly different specs presumably supplied as a cost saving for a buyer of large contract numbers. Caliber 1215, 400, 27.
The watch comes with our usual 2 years warranty and a presentation pack.
