DELUXE SMITHS MODEL A 404 C1957 ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE ASSOCIATED MODELS MADE IN ENGLAND
Average used example of the watch that in 1953 smiths said was used on the everest expedition, in their adverts, but in very wearable condition. Fitted here with a 18mm zrc cowhide leather strap.
Case is 33.3mm excluding the original winding crown. Dial and hands are all original as on all my Smiths watches. Usual Smiths Deluxe grade refined movement covered by the cruciform dustcap incorporating shock-proofing so necessary with the ordinary non-shock set end stones on the balance assembly. Chrome is heavily worn with some scars and the dial is toned withs some stains. Case number 146398. Movement 352458. These non-shockproof versions were probably produced until 1958/9, when the dial markings, shock case ring and case type were all changed, and kif introduced.
Escapement is polished, c series movement, concealed winding wheels, straight one piece click and click spring combined, gilded balance anti-magnetic balance hairspring which is flat, and the balance has screws.
Fully overhauled with good timekeeping. Watches of this period are not guaranteed waterproof.
Some scratches on the crystal which will be replaced.
