This case has the Queens portrait as part of the hallmark, which was intended for 1953 items, although the Birmingham  "c" hallmark may show as 1952 it is explained by the split year assay meaning the assay period went from halfway through the year. Other details about the case are that it is the same design as some of the Benson chromed case Smiths but here is carried out as a far more fetching design, as the chromed ones lose some of their utilitarian appearance.

The case is a 3 piece clip together one, which thus far has just about kept out water, or at least kept it off the movement. but more by luck than design as it is only a dust proof designed case. case ref 12383. number 495287. Signed Benson and ALD for Dennison. The diameter is approximately 31mm. Takes a 16mm strap. A very short one is currently fitted. the lugs are teardrop shaped with one carrying the part hallmark. There is a fine patina of light scratches all over the case, but from a distance it appears near mint.

The superb quality highly refined Smiths Benson signed movement features the extra end caps on the escape wheel, polished ratchet wheel, refined balance assembly, and selected escapement components. Breguet overcoil hairspring, Earlier large diameter kif shock resistance, a feature first introduced on Smiths produced watches at this time, it was much later that the basic Smiths range adopted shock proofing. This example keeps good time still and has generally very minor signs of wear and servicing marks around a couple of the screws.

The dial is the traditional high grade Smiths finish and construction, with riveted gold markers, horizontal brushed grazing, proper lacquer finish and set off with very thin hands, possibly solid gold rather than plated or gilt. One slight pimple on the dial, almost disappears at some angles.
