SMITHS DELUXE CUSHION 16J SILVER WRISTWATCH 1966 WITH VERY RARE SHOCKPROOFING
From the year England won the world cup, the dedication on the back of the watch is from Southern Forge for long service. This retro styled version of the Smiths cushion watch was normally issued by ICI and although the 16 jewel movement isn't Benson grade its very interesting. As well as the centre jewel Smiths have used on both ends of the balance the special anti-choc shock settings found normally on the Deluxe military issued wristwatch from the 50's. They've also chosen to use the same pattern hands they used none of the 60's Everest watches. Fitted still with the original stitched on strap which has a torn keeper, this can be changed but I thought original is best if at all possible. Fabulous two tone dial with vertical and horizontal graining. Not shown clearly in the images is that the toning is pretty even. Ive looked up the Birmingham hallmark and it shows an assay date of 1963/64. ALD Dennison case reference 12100. Batch number 14. So probably made a couple of years before it sold. This is a fun Deluxe grade movement just a little different with the very rare anti-choc shock-proofing, especially as this was normally used on overcoil hairspring balances. Serviced and with our usual two year warranty nd presentation packaging.
