Regular price £950.00 Sale

Smiths Early 6RG full stainless steel 1947 wristwatch serviced.

Nice original example of the classic plain looking 6RG. This very original example even includes the Smiths winding crown. There is not much wear on the casing. The diameter excluding the crown is 31mm. It has a mahogany ZRC 733 strap the original Smiths spring bars.

The movement keeps reasonable time for the period. This is a 12 ligne 15 jewel movement with the earlier Geneve stripe decoration and rhodium plated finish. The is movement numbered 949 which is first year production 1947 so has no prefix letter. The early sequence of the post war wristwatch production is some what confusing and as yet not fully understood. During the WWII period Smiths supplied the RAF with some small centre seconds wristwatches, the bulk of which were converted to subsidiary seconds post war and de-militarised. These were then fed into the early year of production in various forms and when these had been used up smiths further developed the movement with a smaller bottom plate.

The case is a Dennison case and is numbered 9059 12323. It is an 3 piece all stainless steel push fit case. It's in tidy original condition.

The watch comes with our usual 2 year warranty, and accidents excluded should give many years service. It also comes with our usual presentation box and adverts from the period.

A really good example of an english vintage watch from the early post war period.
