SMITHS MADE IN ENGLAND SOLID 9CT GOLD VINTAGE GENTS WRISTWATCH BRITISH RAIL 1969 WITH BOX
Astral Smiths made in England solid 9ct gold vintage gents wristwatch with a standard British Rail employee's details.
9ct gold hallmark for London 1970. The case width without the crown is about 33m and like the rest of this English watch is in excellent condition. Fitted with the original tan 17mm pigskin strap with gilt buckle, not the highest quality, but distinctively a Smiths type. Stamped with an M , could be the length but more likely for either Monopol or Mainline strap makers.
SCW stamped case note that additional S stamp is the Shackman trademark, so presumably actually manufactured by them. The movement is a 60466e caliber , military with hack setting . In this movement as many of the civilian used ones the hairspring is the anti-magnetic variety not the blued steel one. A couple of time scratches, and some mark on the movement near a case screw left by the factory. The case has a lovely patina and has yet to be cleaned as part of servicing. Up til now its not been done at all since new.
Comes in the original Smiths red Rexine silk and velvet lined hard hinged box.
Probably this would be better put away without being worn as an investment for a few years.
