Smiths Deluxe solid gold Austin Motors special presentation 1953 jubilee watch with box for 25 years service. Interestingly the watch itself dates entirely from 1953 and must have been sourced either prior t the Jubilee or as an old piece of stock form Smiths.
Deluxe Smiths made in England large sized 15 jewel 9ct gold wristwatch c 1953 with box. This is the BWC case maker signed version before they became SCW under Smiths. Fitted with a good condition 15 jewel movement without shock-proofing fully overhauled and in good working order. The 9ct reddish gold case carries Edinburgh hallmarks for 1953 and is 34.8 mm wide without the crown. The dial is evenly toned, and features raised dice pattern alternate hour markers and gilt numerals and aged gold plated hands. The old Smiths fitted black calf strap is still kept and supplied with the watch although the gilding has worn off the buckle. A new old stock flat profile crocodile strap is currently fitted in 16mm.
The case has not been polished at all and shows where the bezel has been fitted in different positions in relation to the winding crown in the past. The case is the 2 piece type, with the movement retained in a wide brass ring sitting firmly in the lower case and capped by the crystal and bezel.
