Smiths Deluxe model a454 as used in the Fuchs Antarctic expedition of 1955,and retailed as part of the then Everest range of watches. c1958 just prior to shock proofing of these movements. Original dial and hands, Note the distinctive all red painted seconds hand on this model. 33mm case with chromed top and steel screw in back. The chromed finish, which is brushed horizontally at the sides and polished everywhere else. It Is in generally poor condition, with wear on the high points . Currently fitted with a 16mm black calf strap. Fully overhauled and with the usual two year warranty. 17 jewel c series frosted gilt finished english lever movement with the polished deluxe grade escapement, flat hairspring and mono-metallic balance wheel. c1958. This watch has been thoroughly overhauled with the original very used crown retained however so waterproofing is not guaranteed. The interesting fact is that the watch is engraved PP conjoined style on the back. Definitely company logo style. Please note that the dial is very worn at the edge, has discolouration and scratches near the centre. Priced accordingly. There is a scratch directly under the red second hand.
As a note of interest these cases aren't signed Dennison as one would expect during these years of production, and one would assume that they are made by one of the case companies absorbed by Smiths, although unusually this example's original crown is the Dennison pattern so I have left it on, The strap that came on this watch was a clip on so presumably not an original. The images are slightly overexposed so the dial in reality looks worse than seen here .
