EVEREST SMITHS 19 JEWEL STAINLESS STEEL ENGLISH WRISTWATCH 1960's EXCELLENT FULLY OVERHAULED 3

Regular price £600.00 Sale

A rare all steel Smiths Everest wristwatch. Fitted with the 19 jewel later movement designed to be easier than the 12 ligne movement to work on, and made with the intention that it could have the automatic winding mechanism added later. In full working order, recently overhauled. The two piece case with clip on back is 33.5mm wide and was sold at the time as water resistant. Fitted with a new ZRC leather strap in brown. This watch is also found with Imperial on the dial, which with slight differences is the same basic watch. Nice dial, original finish, note that the Smiths second hand is in the Astral pattern and the put in beat hairspring adjustment indicates that this is probably one of the later production examples of the calibre 0104 movements. Possibly Smiths intended the put in beat for the Everest and a fixed hairspring stud fixing for the Imperial version. The dial still maintains the coffin or dagger shaped batons on the 3 6 9 12 dial. Movement is excellent. Not rated for swimming, but should be ok for rain etc. The armoured crystal has been replaced but the crown and case seal are the original ones. Dates from circa 1965. Some wear to the strap lug at top right. The strap size is 17mm, but it takes an 18mm as in the photo perfectly well.
