J W Benson London Tropical wristwatch by Smiths in a Dennison Aquatite case of approximately 33.5 mm in diameter with a chromed case top and steel screw in back. Fitted with a parallel 18mm vintage look strap. In excellent working order fully overhauled and a good timekeeper. This example has a 15 jewel movement with the cruciform case ring and a mono-metallic balance with screws. These c series J W Benson watches were made both before and after 1950. The case is still fitted with an extra seal around the crystal. There is wear to the plating as usual. The dial is two tone effect with radium hands and numerals and is clearly signed Made In England. On this dial most of the original lacquer work can be seen showing off the vertical and circular brushing of the dial silvering. Usual dimple marks where the dial feet are.
The case back gasket will be changed as the current one is too thick.
Most of these are Tropical or London, this is the three line signature version.
