J.W.Benson wristwatch.. Strangely watches from this period by J W Benson are sometimes signed Tropical as well as London , almost as a premonition of today's terminology. The Roman numerals and hands are presumably in Radium. I think this one dates to about 1951 or 52, the Aquatite case is signed inside not outside. The movement has the now renowned cruciform dust-cap which doubles as a case back and movement spacing ring and was intended to act as a shock absorber. The chrome is worn as usual, with pitting all over.Great vintage look and feel. The movement is 16 jewel and fully serviced. Dennison Aquatite case width without the winding crown is about 33.5mm. The dial and hands are in reasonable condition.
Currently fitted with an extra extra long parallel leather strap, brown, stitched just right for explorer types. Movement number and case number can be clearly seen.
This example has a slight difference to the dust cap in that there is a slot for the mainspring barrel edge which isn't normally there.
There is some wear to the balance staff but the time is still the usual that one would expect.
