SMITHS THOMAS RUSSELL & SON STEEL DENNISON CASED 15J ENGLISH WRISTWATCH

Showing many early Smiths features and yet with the level of refinement seen in their top wristwatches. This "Geneva Stripe" decorated movement runs really well and has none of the slightly sloppy jewel settings or end stones seen in other early watches. This may be the Assembler being the best as far as I can tell, his initials are on but a few watches and are shown here. I think there is a possibiity that this may be the great Robert Lenoir, though there is no proof of this, every RL signed plate has been on a very well constructed movement.

Dennison reference for the case is 12323, and is numbered on all case parts. The movement is c series, number 20819 circa 1947/8 first year or two of post war production.

Denisteel case is three piece clip on, with a diameter of about 31.3mm. The winding crown is original and recessed. The thickness is 10mm. The Strap 16mm.

The watch is fairly hard to wind as the modern stainless steel mainsprings are. The dead old blue steel one practically fell out of the barrel. Aside from that only the crystal has been renewed, as well obviously as the strap and spring bars.

Please note that there are dial defects the worse being a section between about 1 and 3, this is a a silver plated dial with surface lacquer which had presumably got wet at some stage.

Im not sure that the strap it came on is old enough and anyway is clip on. Its pretty worn but will be included.

Please bear in mind that this is small, and suited to small wrists.
